MLNG - PRD SIZING AND CAPACITY STUDY
We were engaged by Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd to perform an independent design verification of the Malaysia LNG Complex’s for pressure relief, blowdown, and flare systems. On top of that, we also involved in pressure relief devices capacity review, resizing and flare systems evaluation at LNG Dua Plant. The study was carried out to evaluate the adequacy of the flare and relief systems of the plant. Specifically, our scope of work were:
To perform detailed overpressure protection analysis of the equipment.
To verify the sizing of the relief devices and flare system for all credible design scenarios.
The analysis and documentation were prepared using the Process Safety Pressure Protection Manager (PSPPM™) software developed by Siemens.
The analysis was performed in the following sequence:
Step 1: To establish a baseline, a project specific guidelines document was prepared by Berwanger Malaysia based on previous Petronas projects.
Step 2: Identification of all rate dependent overpressure scenarios associated with each piece of equipment within the scope of study (both individual scenarios and global scenarios).
Step 3: Quantification of the required relief rates for each credible scenario resulting in overpressure as identified in step 1.
Step 4: Calculation of the required relief loads, and sizing of pressure relief devices and the associated inlet and outlet piping.
Step 5: The adequacy of the flare header and knock out drum was evaluated using the results obtained in the above steps for the various initiating events that may cause a simultaneous release to the flare. Invensys SIMSCI-ESSCOR Visual Flow ® - a third party flare hydraulic software, was used as the backend solver to PSPPM™ for flare network study.
In conclusion, we were able to help the client identify areas of improvement for some of the pressure relief devices and flare network to ensure a safe operation going forward.
