PETRONAS RAPID -      P-RBI STUDY

This project was part of the call out contract awarded by PETRONAS in 2015 for us to perform Risk Based Inspection (RBI) technical services. For this project, the purpose of the RBI implementation as early as the design phase is a pro-active approach to identify potential failure of piping and static equipment in the future based on their risk profiles. This could improve the safety by managing the anticipated risk area and potentially reduce the maintenance cost of Package 5 once it is in operation. Package 5 is a Steam Cracking processing unit consists of columns, vessels, tanks and heat exchangers and is a part of the RAPID project located in Pengerang, Johor.

Under this RBI project, the tasks we performed includes identifying the damage mechanism, development of corrosion system and circuits and implementation of colour coded piping system on Material Selection Diagram (MSD) and Piping and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID). We also managed the consolidation of data for RBI analysis, piping systemization and piping circuitization. On top of those, we also reviewed the Condition Monitoring Locations (CML)/ Thickness Monitoring Locations (TML) for different types of piping and fittings (straight pipes, elbows, tees, reducers and expanders); followed by identification of maintenance accessibility for potential concern area in the plant and documentation.

In the end, the benefit for the plant was to enable a strategic scheduling of the plant maintenance activities to reduce the risk and the downtime, thus potentially minimizing the operating cost effectively.
